Representative Spectral Classes
Inspired by Richard Walker’s Spectral Atlas for Amateur Astronomers, I wanted to assemble a collection of spectral profiles for relatively bright stars that were representative of the classes O, B, A, F, G, K and M. If fact, my decision to purchase a DADOS Slit-Spectrograph was largely driven by that fact that Walker used the same device to obtain profiles in his Atlas.
In my attempt to build familiarity with software tools such as specINTI and confidence in an evolving workflow, I selected targets for which reference profiles were available in the Miles database. I hoped that this approach would give me the best assessment of the validity of my techniques.
