Manastash Ridge Observatory

The observatory was built in 1972 on a site that was carefully selected to have the best prospects for good viewing conditions within a relatively short drive from Seattle. The Manastash Ridge Observatory (MRO) is located in one of the best locations in Washington State for clear and dark skies. The MRO facility is open from April through November, with August and September being the busiest months.

It takes about 2 ½ hours to reach the observatory from Seattle. The final 3-mile access road requires a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The purpose of this Web site is to make it possible for teachers and students to participate in observation programs, including requesting your own observations, even without visiting the facility.

Visit the MRO Home Page at the University of Washington Astronomy Department for more details.
