Diamond ring effect
Beginning of eclipse August 11, 1999, viewed from Paks, Hungary.Seconds before totality, the sky cleared and we had this splendid view of the emerging
corona as the final bit of the sun's disk was covered by the moon.
The star-like pattern and the faint orange circle below the sun are artifacts
of the camera and its telephoto lens. We did not use the spotting telescope to take the
three eclipse photos shown here. That was used for the corona research photographs, not
yet processed.
