Comet Machholz, C/2004 Q2This comet was discovered by Don Machholz of Colfax, California on August 27, 2004. The animation below was assembled from images taken at the Tinyblue Observatory beginning at 11:42 pm on January 3, 2005.
Images were taken with an SBIG ST-7E CCD camera through a Takahashi FSQ-106 at f/5. The comet was located 8 degrees south of the Pleiades high in the southern sky (RA 03 39 43.050, Dec +1 44 02.36). Exposures were each 45 seconds long. the frame rate in this animation is 220 seconds per frame. . |
